NEET UG 2026 Cancelled: NTA Announces Re-Exam Amid Paper Leak Allegations; CBI Probe Ordered

Comments

New Delhi | May 12, 2026 – In a move that has sent shockwaves across the country, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially scrapped the NEET UG 2026 medical entrance exam. The decision, approved by the Union Education Ministry, comes after "credible inputs" suggested the integrity of the May 3rd examination was compromised.

Why was NEET UG 2026 Cancelled?

The cancellation follows a series of raids by the Rajasthan Police's Special Operations Group (SOG). Investigators reportedly recovered a "guess paper" on WhatsApp and Telegram that contained over 120 questions identical to the actual exam paper.

Key findings that led to the cancellation include:

  • Massive Match: Nearly 90 Biology and 30 Chemistry questions were found to be leaked 48 hours before the exam.

  • Interstate Racket: The leak allegedly originated from an MBBS student in Kerala and spread to coaching hubs in Sikar and Jaipur.

  • Security Breach: Suspected internal lapses at a printing press or distribution center are currently under investigation.

What Students Need to Know: The Re-Exam Plan

For the 22.79 lakh students who appeared for the exam, the NTA has provided the following updates:

FeatureUpdate Status
New Exam DateTo be announced shortly (expected in June 2026).
Fresh RegistrationNot Required. Original registration data will be used.
Admit CardsNew admit cards will be issued for the re-test.

Government & CBI Action

The Ministry of Education has taken a stern stance, referring the entire matter to the CBI. A spokesperson stated, "The honesty of hardworking aspirants cannot be compromised. We are committed to a zero-tolerance policy against malpractice."

Reaction from Aspirants

The news has sparked a wave of "heartbreak and exhaustion" on social media. While many students are relieved that "rank inflation" from the leak will be prevented, others are frustrated by the mental toll of preparing for the world's most competitive medical entrance exam a second time.

Note to Aspirants: Please avoid falling for "leaked paper" scams on social media for the upcoming re-exam. Stay tuned to the official NTA website (exams.nta.ac.in/NEET) for the revised schedule.
